HOW SHOULD WE PROTECT ORAL AND DENTAL HEALTH AT THE Feast of Sacrifice?

As meat and sweet consumption will increase during the upcoming Eid al-Adha, we have listed the precautions you can take in this week's article in order to avoid problems with dental health during the holiday.

• Make sure to have your emergency treatment done before the holiday. Changing eating habits during the holiday may exacerbate an existing problem.

* You should use dental floss and an interface brush to remove the meat fibers between the teeth after meat consumption. Cleaning the teeth with a toothpick will damage the gums.

• You should take care to chew on both sides during the holidays (and always).

• If you have a removable prosthesis (removable in the mouth) or if you have joint problems, the meat you consume should be soft.

* You should be careful when consuming hard boned meats. Biting this type of bone fragments quickly and suddenly will damage your teeth.

• Chewing hard holiday candies called rock candy can cause micro-cracks in the teeth, and holding them in the mouth for a long time and sucking can cause cavities.

* The susceptibility to caries may increase due to the increase in consumption of sweet and acidic beverages during the feast. After this type of food, the teeth should be brushed whenever possible, if not possible, the mouth should be rinsed with water, water should be drunk or a piece of cheese should be chewed. Chewing gums containing xylitol (sugar-free gums) for about 15 minutes will also be beneficial.

• We should take care to keep the sugar and chocolate consumption of children under control, especially during the holidays. Excessive consumption of sugary foods will harm children's growth, development and general health, as well as their oral and dental health. Oral care should not be neglected in children as in adults.

We are waiting for you at our clinic to consult your oral health problems at any time before or after the holiday. We wish you a happy holiday full of healthy smiles.
